Varian Medical gains FDA clearance for next-generation Nexus image processing platform

Varian Medical Systems announced Wednesday that its Nexus DRF digital X-ray imaging system received FDA 510(k) clearance. The system is a diagnostic X-ray image processing workstation that combines radio frequency (RF) and digital radiography (DR)capabilities on one platform. "Nexus is Varian's 6th generation image processing platform," noted Carl LaCasce general manager for the company's imaging products business, adding "it's an updated platform designed to provide our customers with a universal system that addresses both dynamic and static imaging modalities, as well as CCD camera based fluoroscopy."

Specifically, the system enables an operator to acquire, display, process, transmit, export or print high resolution X-ray images. The company said that the image processing algorithms make it possible to bring out diagnostic details that can be difficult to see with conventional imaging. "By integrating both RF and DR capabilities…we seek to provide… a standardised platform to optimise workflow and reduce time to market and equipment costs," LaCasce said.
